Offline-first mobile product
Critterboard
An insect hunting game for iOS and Android that keeps identification and play on the device: no account, no cloud dependency, and no tracking by default.
The brief
A product problem worth solving.
Make a playful field companion that respects privacy by design, while leaving room for optional social features without making the core experience depend on a network connection.
The work
Built as a system, not just a surface.
I designed the mobile application around local-first state and native capabilities, then built the supporting backend as an opt-in layer for anonymous social activity. The product combines camera-led interaction, game progression, and a path to on-device vision and AI guide personas.
The result
A live, useful product.
Critterboard is publicly presented as an open-source, offline-first product in active development, with a clear technical direction for private on-device identification and optional networked play.
